Side Projects

At Smile Again, our main goal is simple: turn plastic waste into useful materials and help communities grow stronger along the way. Even though we take on different projects, they all have a common thread—from waste to wealth.

     Maritime waste

Nets and ropes from fishing are often found abandoned at the beach or worse at sea, these types of plastic are strong and durable, but at its end-of-life, difficult to recycle. Luckily, we found Healix, our partner in the Netherlands that can recycle the fish nets and ropes we collect from beaches and bays in West-Africa.

Fashion waste

Tragically, a significant portion of Western clothing finds its way to landfills in developing countries. As we endeavor to reshape our clothing consumption patterns, we aren't waiting on the sidelines. We partner with Kringcoop, and  gather these abandoned textiles and send them to partnering companies where they're rejuvenated into fibers, ready to be woven into new clothes.

Recycling for schools

At Smile Again, we're dedicated to shaping a brighter future by collaborating with today's youth. We've formed partnerships with schools, not only taking in their trash but also encouraging students to bring in plastic waste from their homes. In many developing countries, a lack of waste management systems means trash often ends up polluting the environment. Our initiative raises awareness among the younger generation about the plastic issue and ensures that today's efforts translate into sustainable actions for tomorrow.
